All I wanted to do was to help my massage therapy clients reduce or eliminate jaw pain.

I couldn’t figure out why referring them to physical therapy wasn’t working.

As an exercise scientist, I know that strength training reduces or eliminates joint pain when there is no pathology or injury. I refer my clients to gyms all the time to “cure” pain in every other joint in their body. The jaw is no different.

This is textbook science.

Even the NIH suggests strengthening exercise and stretching as the first and simplest treatment for TMD. (see below)

I also know that, even if there is pathology or injury, at some point, strength training will help improve the function and health of a joint.

 Again, not new science.

What I discovered over time is that there is currently no comprehensive equipment available to strengthen and rehabilitate the jaw, whether the need arises from TMD or other TMJ conditions.

I do not believe that this equipment is the ultimate answer for such a complex problem as TMD. However, I believe it is an important and useful addition to treatment options and supports the NIH recommendations.

I was very clear about what this equipment should be and began the process of prototyping and research. In 2021 I was granted a patent for my efforts.

JawXM is the product of 12 years of independent work. I remain baffled that this wasn’t done already and by someone other than me.

I know that getting these products into the hands of people who can benefit from them is beyond the scope of one person. I can no longer work independently.

It’s time for me to pass this project on to an organization with the vision, passion, expertise, and capability to get these products to market.

My next step on this journey is to assign or license the patent.

Please contact me if your organization is interested.

Thanks,

Kim
